Show pays tribute to legendary singer
An upcoming production explores the friendship between a singer and her biggest fan.
“Always . . . Patsy Cline” is based on the real relationship between Patsy Cline and Louise Seger, a friendship that lasted until the singer's death. The musical includes 27 songs, including Cline's mega-hits such as “Walking After Midnight,” “Sweet Dreams,” “I Fall to Pieces,” and “Crazy.”
Seger was a regular caller to KIKK, a radio station in Houston, which she asked repeatedly to play Patsy Cline records. When she discovered that Cline was coming to a local venue, she and a group of friends went to the concert. Seger met Cline, and the two began to talk. After the show, Seger invited the singer to her home where they had a late dinner and talked; Cline stayed the night.
A solid friendship was forged that evening, and every time Cline wrote to Seger, she signed her letters “Love always . . . Patsy Cline,” which became the name of the show. A review of one production says:
The musical opens July 31, and runs though the end of August at the Raue Center. The show times are 8.00 pm on July 31, and August 7, 15, 21, and 28. Matinees are scheduled at 2.00 pm on August 1, 2, 8, 9, 16, 22, 23, 29, and 30. Poster printing can provide attractive advertising for this type of event.
