Senior housing in Crystal Lake wins approval

Elizabeth Maxwell, Crystal Lake's city planner, recently announced the city has approved plans for new senior housing. The project will be undertaken by DKI, a Chicago-based developer.

The new housing will be located on Station Drive, and offer both one- and two-bedroom apartments. The units will have individual kitchens, and will be designed with an eye toward making residents feel comfortable, offering high-end finishes such as carpentry, artwork, chandeliers, vaulted ceilings, and crown molding. Each unit will have its own storage area as well. In order to attract tenants, managers of projects like this can use brochure printing to create illustrated booklets about the site's amenities.

Residents will also be able to enjoy a fitness room, games room, library, cafe, community area, and theater. Outdoors there will be a large green space, pergola, patio, gazebo, and walking paths. In addition, since the project will be located in Crystal Lake's business park, residents will be able to get to retail and medical services, and social engagements, easily.

Parking will be spread throughout the project, and total 67 spaces, seven of which will be designated as handicapped-accessible. Distributing the spaces allows residents to park near their units, as there are a number of entrances to the property. In addition, a new traffic light will be installed at Exchange Drive and Congress Parkway; DKI will pay 10% of the expense of the installation. Construction should begin in Spring.
