Seasonal run to aid local organizations
A holiday-themed physical activity will allow runners of all ages to participate in a fun event that will also benefit charities in the Crystal Lake area.
The in-person race will take place in early December, with virtual races occurring from late November to early December.
The McHenry County Santa Run for Kids is an event where attendees can dress up in Santa Claus costumes while they run or walk a distance of 5k or 1 Mile, and has taken place annually for 10 years. Those who choose to participate in the 5k will also be eligible for awards in their age group. There are 13 total brackets, ranging from children to senior citizens.
This event is non-profit, meaning the money made will be going to several charities that help local kids. These organizations include Kiwanis Club of Crystal Lake, Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County, Girls on the Run Northwest Illinois, Court Appointed Special Advocates of McHenry County, Turning Point, and Main Stay Therapeutic Farm.
Racers will be given a Santa suit, and they have the option to purchase a T-shirt with a special graphic design, with one costing them $8, and additional shirts being $15.
Tickets for the event cost $15 for the 1 Mile race, and $38 for the 5k. The virtual runners will have from November 30 to December 7 to complete their course. The in-person event will start at the Raue Center for the Arts. It will be open from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on December 5. Participants can pick up their costumes and other packet items on December 2 and 3.
