Race route to take runners past Crystal Lake attractions

The sites of Crystal Lake will be seen by participants in the 6th Annual Crystal Lake Half Marathon and 12K runs.

Both races begin within a few yards of each other at the renowned Main Beach. Runners will then wind through Lippold Park, pass near the historic Dole mansion, curve along Prairie Path, and finish in downtown Crystal Lake.

More than 40 athletes participated in the 12K event last year, with the winner crossing the finish line in just over 59 minutes. Over 250 people completed the half-marathon distance with the first-place runner finishing in one hour and 22 minutes.

There will also be a special Kids Run This Town half-marathon held in conjunction with the other races. Over the four weeks leading up to the event, registered kids cover 12 miles, running any distance at a given time with a parent or other adult. They also receive instruction in proper running techniques at pre-race clinics. On race day, they will join the half-marathon at mile 12 and race to the regular finish line to receive their medal and a recorded time for their one-mile run.

Organizers of races such as this often turn to local Print shops for banner printing to mark the start and finish lines.

The Crystal Lake Half Marathon and 12K will be held Sunday, August 31 beginning at 7:30 am at Main Beach.
