Police academy open to Crystal Lake residents
A police academy will be starting later this year, but interested Crystal Lake residents can apply now.
The McHenry County Sheriff's Office just announced that it has started accepting applications for the next Citizen's Police Academy (CPA). The academy is free of charge, and preference will be given to those who live in the county. People who come to the county for work, and nonresidents, are also welcome to apply.
The CPA is comprised of demonstrations, discussions, and classes that help citizens understand the way the Sheriff's Office operates. The academy's goal is to give participants an up-close look at the agency, which the sheriff's office personnel hope will be both educational and enjoyable. The courses will also help residents understand what services the agency provides, as well as how it operates. Print shops may be used to develop materials for courses like this.
The academy classes meet once a week, from 6:00 pm until 8:30 pm on Wednesdays. The classes will be held in the Training Division of the McHenry County Sheriff's Office beginning September 11. Graduation ceremonies will be held November 20. In order to take part, applicants must be 18 years old at least, fill out the application, and return it by the deadline. Background criminal checks will be conducted on each applicant.
Applications may be mailed or handed in personally, but they must be postmarked, or reach the Sheriff's Office, by 4:00 pm next Friday, July 12.
