What's Happening in Crystal Lake, IL…

National Night Out planned for Crystal Lake

National Night Out is on the way, and the Crystal Lake Police Department (CLPD) is taking part. The nationwide event is an effort to encourage police-community partnerships, and neighborhood safety.

The evening's fun includes a display of fire/rescue and police vehicles, a balloon artist, and face painting. There will be free gift bags and games for the kids, and a Batmobile, which usually hangs around the Volo Auto Museum, will also be there.

Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital will be providing bicycle helmets for free, and also offeringhelmet fittings, as long as supplies last.

National Night Out, as the name implies, is a nationwide effort that makes neighborhoods safer, more welcoming places by building trust between police and the people they serve. The event allows police and citizens to interact under pleasant, positive circumstances, to help build a feeling of community.

Millions of people take part, with all 50 states, U.S. Territories, and military bases included. Each locality tailors activities specifically to their local area, but among some of the more usual efforts are neighborhood block parties, parades, cookouts, and festivals.

The event is always the first Tuesday in August, which means the CLPD will host the local National Night Out from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm tonight, August 7, at the Three Oaks Recreation Area, 5517 Route 14.

Organizers of events like this can use flyer printing to advertise the activity.
