What's Happening in Crystal Lake, IL…

Local dentists buying back Halloween treats

As Halloween 2016 fades into memory, several dentists have decided to buy some of the leftover candy back and support a worthy cause at the same time.

Dr. Gregory Kubik is one such dentist. He has joined with Operation Gratitude, which sends care packages to troops deployed overseas, and gives the unwanted candy to them to send to military personnel abroad. Each child who donates a pound of candy to Kubik’s effort will receive a raffle ticket that gives them a chance to win a Samsung Tablet.

Kubik began collecting the candy November 1, at his office at 490 Coventry Lane, Crystal Lake. There are still a few days left in the drive so families have a chance to get in on the fun. Both today and tomorrow, Dr. Kubik’s office will accept candy between the hours of 7:30 am and 4:30 pm, and on Saturday, November 12 from 8:30 am until 11:30 am.

The candy overload is the result of one of two scenarios: either people bought candy expecting to have more trick-or-treaters than materialized, or they collected a lot of goodies when they made the rounds. Either way, many families now have candy in the house they would rather not eat, or have their children eat.

Offices like these can benefit by working with postcard printing companies, which can create mailers to remind people of these options.
