Crystal Lake to replace playground
The Crystal Lake Park District has decided to replace the playground at Crystal Lake Main Beach, which was built by volunteers.
The park board decided to replace the playground entirely, rather than trying to renovate it. The new playground will be less expensive than the current one, will last longer, and should appeal to a wider age range.
The new playground will feature slides, swings, bars people can hang from, places they can crawl through, and lots of places to climb. The new area will be larger than the current one but will appear more spacious, because the planned structures need to have more space between them.
The park district's Ann Viger said the new park will have lots of things for children to do, and some of them will challenge youngsters physically, which will be good for them.
The cost of the new playground is estimated to be about $195,000, and it is expected to last for about 25 years. Renovating the current area would have been more expensive—about $225,000—and would only have last approximately ten years, according to Viger. The next steps are to finalize the design, and put the project up for bid.
As the project gets underway, park district officials might want to create brochures for residents, to let them know about the new park and encourage them to use it.
