A new Mexican restaurant in Crystal Lake is serving authentic Mexican food, thanks to its owner, Luis Rodriguez. Rodriguez was raised in Zacatecas, Mexico, and the food of his childhood inspires his menu.
Antigua Mexican Grill is on Carlemont Drive, and patrons who have tried the eatery are giving it favorable reviews, according to Patch.com. The restaurant is managed by Luis’ cousin Victor Rodriguez. Although Luis has been in the food industry for years, the grill is the first time he has opened a spot of his own.
Luis has decorated the restaurant with a mural of a bull ring to help diners imagine they have been transported to the Plaza de Toros in Mexico. The mural makes people feel as if they are down on the sand of the ring itself.
Victor said that he and his cousin are passionate about food, and are using some of their parents’ recipes. They say their restaurant is not super fancy, but is a cut above the ordinary taqueria. They are pricing their food somewhere in the middle, so anyone can afford to stop in. When new restaurants like this open, they sometimes distribute promotional products to increase brand awareness.
