Crystal Lake presents the Nutcracker

The Raue Center for the Arts will host a showing of festive classic The Nutcracker this holiday season.

The Nutcracker is a two-act ballet performance first presented in 1892 as a Russian piece. Since then, the performance has become a staple during the Christmas season for many dance and ballet troupes. The Nutcracker follows the story of Clara on Christmas Eve, when she receives the Christmas gift of a nutcracker from Herr Drosselmeyer, the toymaker. The plot of the performance is based on children’s story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, published by German author E.T.A. Hoffman in 1816.

This local production of the dance is also co-produced by the Engage Dance Academy, which is operated by former professional dancers of the Milwaukee Ballet. The Academy offers a number of opportunities to locals who wish to participate in Chicago-based competitions, as well as those just looking for weekly classes in ballet, jazz, and other dance genres.

The cost for entry to the show will be $18 to $30, depending on seating preferences. There is also a $9 purchasing fee. Poster printing can offer new ways to give audiences insight into the performance at events such as this one.

The event takes place on Sunday, December 18, beginning at 1:00 pm. The Raue Center is located at 26 North Williams Street, Crystal Lake, Illinois.
