Crystal Lake prepares for alien brain freeze
The Crystal Lake Ice Cream Fest returns for a second year with a day of cool summer treats, food, and entertainment.
Area restaurants, food trucks, and vendors serving locally made ice cream and novelties will join together to present the family-friendly event. In addition to scooping the many flavors of traditional ice cream, vendors will have a variety of other frozen treats available, including shaved ice and frozen custard. The aim of the event is to bring together the best of the region's small batch and artisanal ice cream producers.
Families can enjoy live bands, a DJ, and beach activities as well as children's ice cream eating contests in which trophies will be awarded. A portion of the contest proceeds will go to support the county Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization.
On the heels of a candy land theme in 2023, this year the festival will adopt an alien theme, dubbed the Milky Way Meltdown. The evening will feature a glow dance party with alien-inspired menu items and kids' games and activities. Costumes are encouraged
Tickets, as well as official festival T-shirts featuring colorful artwork, are available for sale on the event website. Good logo design is important for events such as this, and is often created by local print shops.
The ice cream festival is August 9 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Main Beach in Crystal Lake. Blankets and chairs are recommended, and off-site picnic food is permitted.
