Crystal Lake plans culvert work
Crystal Creek flows out of Crystal Lake and under a number of roads, via a series of culverts. These culverts are between 50 and 75 years old, which means they have exceeded their useful life. They must now be taken out and replaced.
As the construction moves from culvert to culvert, various roads will be shut down, with the total project expected to last between three and four weeks. The culverts are all located along Crystal Creek, at Dartmoor Drive, McHenry Avenue, Barlina Road, Country Club Road, and Broadway Avenue. To make certain that people can access their homes, McHenry Avenue will not be shut down simultaneously with Dartmoor Drive and Barlina Road.
Although no exact date has been given, the contractor expects to start work during April. However, Dartmoor Drive, McHenry Avenue, and Barlina Road will not close until summer, after school is out. The roads where work is being done are being closed to make it quicker and safer for the contractor to compete the project.
The city is inviting people to remain updated on the project by visiting the official website, or by following Crystal Lake on Twitter or Facebook. If they prefer, residents can sign up for updates from the city by providing their email address to construction@crystallake.org.
The city also plans to put message boards along the road that will be closed, in advance of the work. Poster printing can help officials handing projects like this to create such boards.
