Crystal Lake celebrates new park with evening walk
Crystal Lake has a new park, and will soon be making the most of this new addition with a Luminaria Walk and concert.
Shamrock Hills Park is on Hillside Road in Crystal Lake, and will be the site of what could be a magical evening, as a park trail will be lined with luminaria for people to enjoy as they stroll. Luminaria are small lanterns, traditionally paper bags weighted with sand, which have small candles inside. Campfires will be lit, and hot chocolate will be served, so that visitors will be able to remain warm and cozy during a concert given by the Encore Youth Choir. The singers will be offering holiday favorites.
The Heraty Family donated the Shamrock Hills property, which comprises 23 acres, to the Crystal Lake Park District. The park has three fishing ponds; large trees that provide shade in summer; and rolling hills. Organizers of activities like this can work with a poster printing company to create signs to help guests find their way through the venue.
The Luminaria Walk is scheduled for November 30, from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm. There is a suggested donation of $1 per person, with a maximum of $5 per family, to be paid on the night of the event. The fees collected will be used to fund outdoor education programs at the Nature Center.
