What's Happening in Crystal Lake, IL…

Colonial Cafe gives back

Colonial Cafe has announced that it is holding its annual Match Day, when the restaurant chain will match the donations made to the Salvation Army in the area, up to $30,000.

Provided they do not go over this maximum amount, the cafe will match the donations made to the trademark red kettles on Match Day. The kettles are located in Crystal Lake, as well as Elgin, Naperville, Aurora, Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles, and McHenry County. There will also be special kettles placed at the Colonial Cafes in Crystal Lake, Naperville, Elgin, Algonquin, and Aurora, as well as two locations in St. Charles.

The communities that are encouraged are all in the Fox Valley, and all the money will be used in the local area, and help support the programs and services of the units of the Salvation Army operating here. At the kettles, Colonial Cafe will be giving donors cards for a special treat.

Colonial Cafe has been supporting the Salvation Army since 1951, when Colonial's Joe K. Anderson teamed up with the charity. According to the Army's Lieutenant Betsy Clark, the relationship is generational, with the Anderson family continuing its support from one generation to the next.

Match Day this Saturday, December 9. Organizers of drives like this could create flyers to hand out, explaining the effort and asking for contributions.
