College to offer STEM camp this summer
McHenry County College (MCC) in Crystal Lake will offer full-day camps in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) subjects in order to prepare students for the next academic year.
For students from the first through ninth grades, instructors will use STEM to teach lessons Mondays through Thursdays. Each week will have a different theme, such as NASA Aeronautic Engineers, and CSI Introduction to Forensics.
In addition to STEM subjects, MCC will offer half-day enrichment and academic classes designed to help develop students' critical-thinking abilities. Some of the courses included are fitness, algebra, baking, and creative writing.
Additionally, STEM classes will be available in related fields such as application development, 2-D animation, web design, and computer gaming. A Maker's Lab 3-D is also on the schedule, for students in second through ninth grade who want to be web designers. In the 3-D class, students will sculpt, render, and texture 3-D creations of their own.
The summer school sessions run from June 19 to August 10, catering to students from those just entering first grade, through those completing the twelfth. Instructors will include certified teachers, MCC faculty, and support staff. Parents can enroll children for the entire six-week program, or for just the single week the student finds most interesting.
Institutions like this can benefit if officials work with a booklet printing company to create an item for each week of the course.
