What's Happening in Crystal Lake, IL…

Assisi Animal Foundation already planning anniversary bash

The Assisi Animal Foundation (AAF) has been operating in Crystal Lake for almost 30 years, so will celebrate an anniversary this year. Shelter operators already have party plans in motion, and are asking the community for help.

The shelter first opened its doors in Chicago, but moved to Crystal Lake in 1988. It opened just before Christmas that year as the first no-kill shelter in McHenry County. Other organizations have since opened, but the population of the country has increased, and so has the number of animals that need help, so the AAF remains a vital community resource.

AAF was also the first organization in the county to work with what are now widely known as ‘therapy animals’. Before the facility was open, members were taking adoptable pets to nursing homes in the local area to help boost residents' morale. The practice is now recognized as being very beneficial.

The foundation's auction and dinner-dance will be held in November 3, and is a major fundraiser for AAF. Shelter personnel are asking the community to donate items to be auctioned off, and are looking for outstanding goods for the event. People who are interested in donating, attending the event, adopting, or just learning more about the shelter are encouraged to call 815-455-9411.

Organizations like this can help explain their mission, and encourage people to join, by working with a brochure printing company to create colorful booklets.
