Arty Crystal Lake event benefits from spacious venue
The art and craft event, held on November 15 at the former Woden-Crystal Lake School, attracted a large and appreciative turnout.
The parking lot was full even before the doors opened, and the event was busy all day with people from the surrounding area visiting and local firms, no doubt including print companies, looking for inspiration.
A range of vendors and artists displayed and sold their wares at the event, with many of them appreciating the amount of space available across the several floors at the venue. However, heating such a large space is an issue, which the building’s new owners plan to tackle by having a new furnace installed. For this offering, individual heaters ensured that everyone was kept warm.
This was the first event held by the Kluvers who bought the building from the Forest City School District earlier in the year. Before the Kluver family bought the building, it had stood empty for close to two years. Despite this, the building is in relatively good condition.
More events are planned for the near future. Heather Kluver, one of the building’s owners, said:
The family is open to suggestions from the community about the kinds of events that could be held there.

"We've already got a couple of weddings booked here, and I've got more ideas for next year's (arts and crafts fair)."
