Agriculture fair arranged in Crystal Lake
Crystal Lake area farmers will present information about their crops and how to get involved in Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) at an upcoming agricultural fair.
The Community Supported Agriculture Fair and Community Film Screening event is jointly presented by The Land Conservancy of McHenry County and the Center for Agrarian Learning (CAL) at McHenry County College.
The college regularly offers a variety of educational options that relate to food and farming. For growers, there are workshops that can assist with product diversification, finance, law, sustainability and instruction on the latest farm trends and practices.
CSA is a farm-sharing program where members sign up and pay in advance to receive regular farm fresh food products directly from growers. CSA subscriptions may include farmers who only grow for the program year-round or seasonally and share the crops among members, or those who partner with other farmers so they can provide a broader range of products.
Growers who participate in programs such as CSA may seek out printing services to provide printed materials such as crop menus and subscription contacts.
Visitors to the fair can meet farmers in person and learn about the variety of food and other items such as wildflowers available for purchase. Short films on food and agriculture will be presented and youngsters can take part in special children’s activities.
The fair is free to attend on Saturday, February 8 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm in Building B at McHenry County College in Crystal Lake. Registration is not required.
