Nampa conference to benefit aspiring teachers

The Nampa Civic Center will be holding an event in January organized by the Idaho Association for Bilingual Education.

The Idaho Association for Bilingual Education 2023 Conference is an event where teachers can connect with colleagues while learning from an experienced keynote speaker. Dr. Carol Silva will be the presenter and will lead two breakout sessions during the conference. The topics covered at the event include program models like dual immersion and sheltered instruction. A silent auction for baskets will be held to raise money for aspiring teachers who are currently in their last two years of university.

The Idaho Association for Bilingual Education is a group founded in 1979 that seeks to further the goals of bilingual learning. The non-profit organization provides scholarships to students who plan on pursuing careers in bilingual education. The president of the group is Molly Fuentealba, a graduate of The College of Idaho with experience as a Federal Programs consultant for Boise Schools. Gisel Holdcroft is the organization’s vice president.

The conference will take place on Friday, January 27 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Tickets to the event will cost $125. There will also be a pre-conference gathering on January 26th where guests can hear from speakers from Latinx communities and enjoy appetizers. People who attend professional gatherings similar to this may bring custom business cards to offer to their colleagues.
