Nampa carvers guild to organize workshop

The Idaho Woodcarvers Guild will be holding an in-person class at the Nampa Public Library in April.

Those interested in developing their woodcarving skills can attend a course presented by the group. During the activity, guests will get to carve little owls while being guided by an experienced instructor. All necessary items for the project will be provided by the presenter, including hand protection, knives, wood, and hand tools. Organizations that offer artistic experiences such as this may utilize flyer printing to get people interested in the project.

The Idaho Woodcarvers Guild is a non-profit group that initially began in 1980 and was founded by Maxie Mayhew and Tony Smart. The purpose of the organization is to encourage the art of woodcarving and other related woodworking skills like wood burning. Those in the club participate in meetings and hold carving demonstrations. The group has several Hall of Fame members, including Vic Otto, Gary Smith, Ryan Olsen, and Cleve Taylor.

The Wood Carving Class will take place on Thursday, April 28 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Multipurpose Room A. The minimum age required to join the carving course is 16. Registration is required, and the class will be limited to 12 people. Those interested in joining the Idaho Woodcarvers Guild at its next open carving session can go to Woodcraft in Boise.
