Flooding in Davenport has been hard on the local economy, but Ken Croken, the supervisor of Scott County, has a solution to help merchants.
Croken, along with the Quad-Cities River Bandits, are offering residents a free ticket to an upcoming game, if they go shopping in Davenport during a specific period. The flood in late April caused a great deal of economic hardship to business owners in the city's downtown. Many sustained significant damage, and an extremely bad winter made things even worse.
Croken wants to change all that by urging people to shop downtown, save their receipts, and turn them in for tickets to an upcoming game between the River Bandits and the Beloit Snappers. The River Bandits are the Class A team associated with the Houston Astros, and the Snappers are the Oakland Athletics' Class A team. The Snappers home field is in Beloit, Wisconsin.
The shopping period is during the coming week, from May 27 through May 30, and people need to spend at least $20 at that time. Shoppers can exchange their receipts for one free ticket to the game to be played at the Modern Woodmen Park on Thursday, May 30, starting at 6:35 pm. Free tickets are limited to two per person. Organizers can use poster printing to create Signs for participating merchants.
