A new delivery station will be built by e-retail giant Amazon near its current center in Davenport, located off Interstate 80.
The facility will span 114,000 square feet and will complement the Robotics Fulfillment Center of Amazon. Over 100 direct and indirect jobs will be created due to this facility. Such positions will include opportunities for driving the Amazon Flex and Delivery Service Partner program, which will serve thousands of customers in the county and beyond. Such positions can be promoted throughout a city and the wider region with poster printing.
The Economic Development Manager at Amazon, Jason Vangalis, said that a robotics sorting facility was launched in Davenport and had been extremely successful. He added that due to this success, it made sense to build a second location in Davenport.
Plans for the delivery station are in the early stages. This will be a last-mile facility that will help the final stage of the process of fulfillment and ensure fast delivery to the doorsteps of customers.
Mike Matson, mayor of the City of Davenport, said that this new facility will advance the city’s vision for sustained development. He added that with the cost of living, schools, and family life in the area being selling points, people will want to come to Davenport and work at this new facility.
It is expected that Amazon will be hiring as of the end of summer.
