Runners from Davenport and throughout the Quad Cities area are already training for the race known as the Bix at Six.
The training will help them make sure they familiarize themselves with the course, and get through the grueling race, which is seven miles in length and requires them run up the Brady Street Hill to Kirkwood to McClellan Heights, then double back.
Ed Froehlich, the race director, says the training sessions serve two purposes: they're a good way for first-timers to explore the race, and they also provide an opportunity for people to socialize.
Froehlich went on to say the race has become a tradition in the Quad Cities for many reasons, but the support of the community is one of the most important. Another is the fact the race course is difficult. Froehlich admits it sounds odd to say the severity of the course is one reason for its popularity, but adds that if it were seven miles on the flat, it would not be nearly as exciting.
Training sessions are held Thursdays: the first two sessions were June 23 and 30, and the last two are July 7 and July 14; all at 6 :00p.m. The race itself will be run on July 30 at 8:00 am.
