A master folk singer is coming to Davenport this October.
Gordon Lightfoot will appear at the Adler Theatre later this year for one performance. A native of Orillia, Ontario, Lightfoot found success in Canada and throughout the world in country, folk-rock, and folk music, and is sometimes given credit for defining the folk-pop style popular in the 1960s and 1970s.
Many of Lightfoot's songs have charted, and an impressive number have gone to the No. 1 spot on the charts, both in Canada and the United States. Among the singles that went to the top of either the US Hot 100 chart or the AC chart are “If You Could Read My Mind,” “Sundown,” and the iconic “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,” which describes the sinking of the ore carrier Edmund Fitzgerald in Lake Superior.
As a songwriter, he has created material that has been recorded by dozens of artists, including Olivia Newton-John, The Grateful Dead, Glen Campbell, Harry Belafonte, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and Elvis Presley.
A review of Lightfoot in concert says:
“With a clean and simple set up, he and his 4-piece band ran through 50+ years of stellar music that has stood the test of time . . . His guitar playing is on point, his style and charisma as evident as ever.”
Lightfoot is set to perform October 5 at 8.00 pm, and tickets are going quickly. Poster printing is often used to create advertising for this type of event.
