Michal Lai is the owner of SUSHI, etc. by m.j's. The eatery’s name may be familiar to residents of Davenport, since MJ Chinese, Vietnamese, & Sushi has been a staple on Locust Street for many years. Lai’s parents own that restaurant and, after working there for many years, he decided to own a restaurant of his own.
The menu offers poke bowls for a lighter meal, 27 classic sushi rolls, 22 specialty sushi rolls, and sushi burritos for a hearty meal. Classic sushi rolls include salmon and cream cheese, while the specialty rolls include crab, shrimp, cucumber, avocado, and seared tuna. The food is made from fresh ingredients and all the sauces are homemade. The starting point for each dish is a choice of white rice or a bed of leafy greens on which the various toppings are placed. Appetizers and platters can round out the menu.
Such new eateries sometimes turn to local Print shops to help them publicize their opening in a new part of town and the type of food they offer.
Lai will also make fresh sushi rolls available in a grab-and-go refrigerator for those in a hurry for a meal.
