Davenport welcomes new lofts as downtown growth continues

More units have just come on the market with the opening of a new project in Davenport.

The Halligan Coffee Co. Lofts, which cost approximately $6.5m, opened April 22 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by city officials and business leaders. The development is by Y & J Properties, which is a specialist in historic rehabs.

Y & J is owned by Manoj and Manisha Baheti, with Joe Erenberger working as their partner. The company has either renovated, or is currently working on, more than 200 lofts in Davenport’s downtown. The Halligan, which is a historical building, was renovated and turned into 45 lofts that will rent at market rates. Units became ready for occupancy on May 1.

Approximately 1,600 to 1,700 people currently live downtown, in about 1,100 units, according to the Downtown Davenport Partnership's executive director, Kyle Carter.

Carter said the city was excited by this project and others completed in recent years, which together represent approximately $31m in investment in the city's downtown. In addition, almost 300 additional units, which represent about $113m, are either under construction or in the planning stages. These units are expected to be finished in the next two years.
