Davenport to offer sessions on city government

DavenportU or Davenport Citizens Academy, the citizens academy of the city of Davenport which lasts 10 weeks, is now accepting applications.

Mayor Mike Matson welcomes residents of the city to the academy who are passionate about learning more about their local government and community. The goal of the academy is to connect citizens to the local government and learn more about such topics as how heavy the turnout gear of the firefighters is, and how projects are prioritized in the city. More details about such academies are often provided with brochure printing.

Sessions will run in the evenings from 6:00pm to 8:30pm. The academy will start with an introduction to city government and end with a graduation ceremony at a meeting of the City Council. Additional sessions will cover topics such as community policing, the community development process, the basics of city government, and planning the budget.

The sessions will run on Monday evenings, beginning on April 1 and run through May 22. Applications can be submitted online through until Friday, February 23. Participants need to be 18 years of age and older.

Space in the academy is limited, and a submission does not guarantee acceptance. Notification of acceptance status will be sent out by Friday, March 8. Those who are accepted will be encouraged to attend all 10 sessions.
