Davenport will spend millions to repair sewers along Brady Street, as well as resurfacing the thoroughfare.
The extensive project will cover the stretch from Lombard Street to River Drive, with the first part concentrating on the sewer system, from High Street to 12th.
This is the second year in a row that work on downtown streets may interrupt traffic, but city officials have assured residents the construction will not affect the Bix 7 Road Race, which takes place on Brady Street. In fact, the city has stated Brady Street will remain open to businesses and residents during the work, but the street will have only two lanes available.
Construction workers will first place barricades on the two lanes on the east side of the street. After the work is finished underground, the street will be patched, and then the two west-side lanes will be barricaded. Estimates are that, weather permitting, it will take crews about six weeks to complete this part of Brady Street. Once the entire east side of the street is done, work will begin on the west.
Work on the east is set to begin this month, and spring 2017 is the anticipated start date for the west.
City officials might consider working with a postcard printing company on a series of cards to keep residents updated on the progress of the work.
