Davenport offers funds for renovation of properties

The Extreme DREAM Project has been launched by the city of Davenport.

This program is designed to rehabilitate abandoned and vacant homes in the Gaines Street corridor so that they can become owner occupied residences. The project will match dollar for dollar (up to a maximum of $100,000) towards the purchase and renovation of a property within the area of the project. More details about such funding can be provided with flyer printing.

The sale of the Heritage Building in 2021 has enabled the city to allocate $2.1m for the Extreme DREAM Project.

Economic Development Manager for the City of Davenport, Susanne Knutsen, said that this project builds on the success of previous such projects in the city. She said that the city is committed to investing in its heritage neighborhoods to ensure that they remain strong and energetic.

The Gaines Street corridor has 32 properties identified as potential projects eligible for this program. To be eligible, properties need to have severe violations of the code and have been vacant for at least six months. Once the renovations have been completed, the property needs either to be sold to someone who will occupy the home or be occupied by the owner.

Applications for the Extreme DREAM project are now open. The review of applications will begin in late July and will be accepted on a rolling basis.
