Davenport is getting ready to “party with a purpose” according to an article on the KWQC TV Channel 6 website.
The party in question is the Holiday Hat Bash, which is coming up at CASI on Kimberley Road in Davenport.
It began in 2008, when an 89-year-old woman named Leonora sent a thank-you to someone named Kate, who was with CASI (the Center for Active Seniors). Kate had sent Leonora a card and gift—the only Christmas remembrances she received. Leonora’s thank you made CASI realize there were many seniors left alone at the holidays, and that was the impetus for the event.
The party is sponsored by Ruhl and Ruhl Realtors, which, together with CASI, raises money to buy holiday gifts for seniors in the Quad Cities, and to supply year-round services to the area’s older population.
Those who intend the Holiday Hat Bash will enjoy food, music, a silent auction, raffles, and (of course) a hat contest. Chefs from senior living centers in the area will create desserts and gourmet appetizers for everyone to try.
Tickets to the event are $40, which includes all the food and drink, the raffles, prizes, silent auction, and all the contests—such as the Hat Contest and the Necker’s Diamond Derby, as well as a Cigar Pull in the Man Cave.
Events like these can be enhanced if organizers create festive Banners to decorate the venue. The party takes place tomorrow, November 10.
