Davenport fire department swears in new members

Four new firefighters have joined the Davenport Fire Department. They are Anthony Mirr, Chris Ploessl, Wesley Foster, and Ryan Amidon.

The quartet started with the city in July 2023, having attended a training program held in-house that lasted for eight weeks and achieved various certifications from the state. They have also gained the experience they need to take on a shift of 24 hours. News of such new members to a municipal department in a city is often spread throughout the community with materials created by printing services.

Mirr was born and raised in Davenport. He obtained his EMT (emergency medical technician) certification from Scott Community College. He has been an EMT for four years and is looking to be certified as a paramedic.

Ploessl is a graduate of Bennet Community College. He has been a landscaper for the past 25 years and is now looking forward to his new career in firefighting.

Foster was born and raised in Rock Island, Illinois, and joined the United States Navy after completing high school. He earned a degree in Fire Protection Technology and his EMT Basic certification after attending college in Mount Vernon, Washington. He has volunteered for the Eldridge and Bettendorf Fire Departments in the area.

Finally, Amidon grew up in Mt. Pulaski, Illinois. Along with a bachelor’s degree in biology from Augustana University, he also has his EMT Basic certification and has obtained his paramedic, HazMat Tech, and Fire I certification.
