Atlanta area residents who loved the Rio Bravo restaurants will be pleased to know that the restaurant has reopened a location in Sandy Springs, though at present it is serving dinner only.
Ray Schoenbaum founded Rio Bravo Cantina in 1984, and the spot became known as a place for Atlanta residents to go when they wanted Tex-Mex food. The meals were handmade using fresh ingredients, and the cantina was known for its fun atmosphere, frosty margaritas, and cold beer. The establishment expanded throughout Atlanta, as even into some places in Florida.
Schoenbaum sold the company in the 1990s, but since then, he has received thousands of pleas to reinstate the concept, which is fondly remembered by many. He decided to reopen Rio Bravo, using the original recipes for favorites like guacamole and chile con queso. He has found former employees who remember the “secret formulas” for the dishes, and is also adding new menu items to cater to diners who may not remember the original, and are looking for something different.
However, Ray Schoenbaum promises all the things diners loved about the original Rio Bravo will be back. The reopened cantina is at 6450 Powers Ferry Road NW.
Schoenbaum could work with a banner printing company to create a festive streamer to celebrate the return of Ray's Rio Bravo.
