Sandy Springs welcomes hockey team

When the NA3HL hockey team the Atlanta Capitals begin their 2015-2016 season, they will have a new home.

According to a June 16, 2015 news article, the junior hockey league team will move to Sandy Springs, where they will play at Center Ice Arena, located on Roswell Road.

The junior hockey league provides a structured system that gives student athletes access to the training, coaching, and development that gives them greater opportunities to move up to college hockey, or even the NHL itself.

The move came after the league set a deadline for the team, and owner Don Stone had to decide where the Capitals would play. Stone says he believes Sandy Springs will be a good fit, and notes that the facilities provided by the arena are first-rate, and many players like the community.

The Center Ice Arena boasts 36,000 square feet of space that includes two new, full-size dressing rooms for junior hockey players, and a four-sided, overhead scoreboard. The arena can hold more than 1,000 hockey fans.

Anthony Bohn, the Capitals' head coach, noted Sandy Springs residents had welcomed the team warmly, and he and the players look forward to working with community members on and off the ice.

The Capitals will play a total of 48 games, 22 at home. The first will be in Sandy Springs.

Team officials could work with a poster printing company on placards announcing the games.
