What's Happening in Sandy Springs, GA…

The government for Sandy Springs has given the go-ahead on a pair of agreements made with Georgia Power Company to relocate certain utility fixtures that were to be placed on Johnson Ferry Road as part of the Mr. Vernon Highway Project.

Part of the project’s plan is to improve intersections and use a compressed grid design at Boylston Road and Johnson Ferry Road. The final touches are being put on the designs, utility coordination phases, and right-of-way acquisition. Project managers like to use graphic design to show what a project like this would look like once it is completed.

The city saw an opportunity to work on the plans for another project at Veterans Park during the scheduled utility coordination phase. The utility works will be extended to include work on the Roswell Road Triable, which is located at the intersection of Mt. Vernon Highway and Johnson Ferry Road that leads to Sandy Springs Library.

The city also plans to improve on the Veterans Park’s aesthetics by moving several utility fixtures from above ground to underground where they will not be seen. The aerial-to-underground utility improvements are being handled primarily by Georgia Power and Sandy Springs, and the plan involves more distribution lines and poles.

The project is being funded by TSPLOST. The first three phases will cost just over $4m while the fourth will cost £500K. The project is expected to take 165 days to complete.
