Dealing with stormwater runoff is a step households can take towards becoming more environmentally friendly, and a Sandy Springs activity will explore the topic in depth.
The “A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall” class will explore ways that households can protect the Chattahoochee watershed by making some enhancements to their property. It is being offered at no charge, and kids who are 12 and under will need to attend with an adult.
The presenter for the session will be Alan Toney, who is the Chair of Fulton County’s Soil & Water Conservation District and a Master Naturalist. He will explore how stormwater runoff can lead to pesticides, motor oil, fertilizers, and other substances entering the area's watershed, and it may also cause erosion and other negative effects. Everyone will learn how easy it can be to create a yard that absorbs excess rain while still looking great, while also benefiting wildlife.
