Sandy Springs officials would like to hear what residents think of a proposed extension to a local trail, and have scheduled a public meeting for that purpose.
An extension has been proposed to the Path 400 Multiuse Trail, which currently runs north for 5.1 miles from Loridans Drive in Atlanta, passing through Sandy Springs. The extension would take the path all the way to the interchange of I-285 and Georgia 400, and would be built almost entirely within the state route's right-of-way, which belongs to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). The extension would connect with the multiuse paths proposed at Mt. Vernon Highway and Peachtree Dunwoody Road.
In November 2016, voters in Fulton County and Sandy Springs approved the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax referendum, which included the Path 400 project. The measure imposed a human of a cent sales tax, to be earmarked for transportation projects in Sandy Springs, and should raise more than $100m over five years.
The Open House that the city has scheduled will give residents a chance to look at the plan for the trail, ask questions, and submit their comments. A brief presentation is planned, with the open house to follow.
