The Sandy Springs selection for the event is ‘A Walk in the Woods, Rediscovering America’ on the Appalachian Trail. Authored by Bill Bryson, the book follows his return to his native U.S. following 20 years in Britain.
Reacquainting himself with his home country by taking up the 2,100-mile Appalachian Trail, the story relays the trail’s history and ecology, describes the chats Bryson had people along the route, and issues a plea to conserve wilderness.
Christine Heller, the chairperson for the event, said:
“Please read this great book and join friends and neighbors for a series of Sandy Springs Reads programs during the month of October.”
As well as the main tome, there are a number of companion Books, including ‘A Week in the Woods’ by Andrew Clements and ‘Hatchet’ by Gary Paulson.
As well as the reading aspect of the event, it is also committed to getting people outdoors, with Print companies in Sandy Springs no doubt helping advertise the accompanying guided nature walks.
Ending with a showing of the Appalachian Impressions documentary on October 25, the event is presented by Art Sandy Springs.
