The first-ever brewery to operate in Sandy Springs, Pontoon Brewing Company, is set to open soon. Sean O'Keefe, the CEO of Pontoon, said he felt happy to be setting a precedent. Pontoon has not had its own facility until now, but having won approval from the city, has already moved to Dunwoody Place, in the city's north end. A brewpub, 5 Seasons Brewing Company, already operates in Sandy Springs, but Pontoon will be the first fully-functional brewery.
Ken Dishman, councilman for District 2, said he was glad to see the new operation come to the city, and hopes it will be only the first of many more, which could be a catalyst for further growth in Sandy Springs. He has met O'Keefe and others in the company, and believes they will do an outstanding job.
Pontoon was founded in 2013 as a contract brewery—an operation in which it gave its recipes for beer to others, who brewed it for them and distributed it throughout the state. Now Pontoon will be making and selling all their beer themselves. O'Keefe said he and his crew examined 41 different locations before settling on Sandy Springs, partly because residents told him they would like to see a brewery in the local area.
