David Carr, a retired sciences professor at North Carolina, joined the 'Little Free Library' initiative by building his version in the front yard driveway of his home after one of his daughters told him about the idea, first seen in Wisconsin.
Carr said:
“She sent me a link on how to start Little Free Libraries.
“I looked at it...and realized I could do that. I have a book or two I could share.”
That was in May 2013 and now the little library boasts a bench for folk to sit while browsing the 45 titles available. The system works though a system of people borrowing Books and leaving books for others to read.
It has recently been joined by another library opening.
Just a mile from Carr's home, fellow Sandy Springs resident Bryan Weselman has built his as part of an Eagle Scout initiative.
Having received permission from the city authorities to use a lot at the entrance of Abernathy Greenway.
