Sandy Springs makes pedestrians safer

At a meeting on October 4, members of the Sandy Springs city council approved a measure that will make the area more pedestrian-friendly.

At the meeting, they approved a contract between the city and Ed Castro Landscape, who will build a pedestrian bridge and sidewalk for $384,248.99. The Georgia Department of Transportation prequalifies its prime contractors, but Urey Companies, the lowest bidder, was not one of those, and did not get the contract.

Sandy Spring's Capital Improvement Projects unit manager, Marty Martin, said the city could issue a notice to proceed as early as this month. Estimates are that construction will take about six months, but there has been no word on a potential starting date.
