Sandy Springs fire personnel find new location

Sandy Springs is getting a new fire station, and firefighters are relocating temporarily during construction.

Sandy Springs' Fire Station No. 2, which opened in 1969, provided fire protection to Fulton County and the City of Atlanta before it began providing the same to the City of Sandy Springs. Due to its age, the Sandy Springs City Council approved replacing the station, with the funds coming from the budget for Fiscal Year 2020.

Fire Station No. 2 is located at Sandy Springs Circle and Johnson Ferry Road, with demolition scheduled to begin soon. Hussey Gay Bell & DeYoung is the architect on the project, and in December 2019, presented the design for the new facility. The structure will have two stories, along with a decontamination area featuring a separate airlock and HVAC system. The station will include an area for training, and separate living quarters for female and male firefighters.

One engine and one crew from Fire Station No. 2 will be stationed temporarily at a facility located at Mt. Vernon and Roswell Road. The battalion chief and the ladder company from Station No. 2 will be housed at Fire Station No. 3, which is on Raiders Drive. Placing the station's personnel in these locations will allow the department to maintain its current coverage. Flyer printing can be used to create a mailer to residents in situations like this, assuring them of their continued safety.
