It's estimated that the United States is home to thousands of plant species at risk of extinction, and the gardening public in Sandy Springs will soon be learning how they can help to turn the tide.
An activity planned for Lost Corner Preserve will provide an opportunity for home gardeners to get their feet wet when it comes to choosing native species for their shade garden. Wild Roots Nursery co-owner and Master Gardener Trecia Neal will share her expertise, and there's no fee being charged.
The attendees will discover how they can incorporate native species in their yard, and also how many are well adapted to shady conditions. Perennials, annuals, shrubs and trees will all be discussed, and Trecia will provide tips for determining whether a location is full sun, part sun, or shade. This can be important when choosing plants for a particular site, and pollinators will also be on the agenda.
Home gardeners may welcome the opportunity to learn something new, and a workshop provides a time to do so. Dibblers, climate zone charts, paper seed packets, and other materials for an activity can be ordered from an area printing services company.
This introduction to the benefits of choosing native plants will kick off at 7:00 pm on March 25th. All ages are welcome, but kids aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
