The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System has undertaken extensive renovations, and has designated seven branches as Group I. They will be closed soon so renovations can proceed, and the Sandy Springs branch is among them.
According to Dr. Gabriel Morley, the library system's director, there are 34 libraries in the county, 23 of which are scheduled to be redesigned and modernized. Renovations will include upgrading to new roofing and HVAC systems, upgrading technology, installing new shelving, redesigning the layout of the facility, designing study rooms, and making restrooms ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant.
Morley says he understand that closing the libraries will be inconvenient, but he believes the results will be worth the disruption. He added the library will try to finish the renovations as quickly as they can. Renovations could take as long as nine months, or as little as three, depending on the branch in which they are taking place.
Sandy Springs patrons are invited to use the Buckhead Library in Atlanta, the Milton Library on Mayfield Road, the Alpharetta Library on Park Plaza, or the East Roswell Library on Holcomb Bridge Road during the renovations.
