Sandy Springs, along with Dunwoody, Brookhaven, and the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts (PCIDs) in the area, has teamed up to study Last Mile Connectivity in the area, and has scheduled an open house about the subject.
Last Mile Connectivity applies in many different fields; it refers to the gap between goods or services that are transferred to a central hub, but then for whatever reason, do not make it the “last mile” to the end user. This can be the case in anything from phone service, to internet connections to, in this case, ground transportation.
Last Mile Connectivity discusses the connections between stations, hubs, and/or transit stops, and final stops such as retailers, offices, and residences. It also considers multimodal (using a combination of transport, such as taking a bus to a train) alternatives to driving everywhere.
The meeting will allow the partnering agencies to discuss potential investments in roads, trails, and pedestrian and bicycle facilities, and how to create a network of convenient and safe opportunities for people to ride their bikes, walk, or use public transportation through the area, rather than driving.
The open house is scheduled for January 26, with three presentations at 6:15, 6:45, and 7:15 pm. They will take place in the Conference Room, Suite 335 in the Northpark 400 complex at 1000 Abernathy Road in Sandy Springs.
Events like this can benefit if organizers work with printing companies to create attractive materials for meetings.
