Noted organist and trio coming to Sandy Springs

Many musicians cross over into different styles, but one with a truly unique resumé is coming to Sandy Springs soon.

The Matthew Kaminski Trio will be at The Select Restaurant for one performance. The jazz ensemble is led by Kaminski—who is also the organist for the Atlanta Braves. He plays for every home game, meaning he is at ballpark about 80 days each season. Even more offbeat is the fact he has become known for poking musical fun at opposing players as they come to bat. For one player who lost a significant amount of weight, he played “Half the Man I Used to Be.” Kaminski has been playing for the Braves since 2009.

In addition to being an expert organist, Kaminski also plays the accordion and piano. He leads a jazz quartet in addition to the trio, and is a member of the Orquesta MaCuba, a Latin group. He is also the accordionist for two other groups: The Georgia Polka Connection and Back in the Saddle, performing polka and Western swing respectively.

He has also released several CDs, including one with music played on the organ at the ballpark, a Hammond B-3. Among the songs in the collection are the traditional “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” but also “Kashmir” and “California Girls.”
