Out-of-district students who are paying tuition to attend Sandy Springs' North Springs Charter High School will be allowed to continue their studies, thanks to a decision by the Fulton County School System (FCSS).
The system recently decided to stop accepting out-of-district students, but made exceptions for several students and their families who would suddenly have to find a different high school to finish out the 2018-2019 school year.
FCSS said it recently learned of a letter Dr. Robert Avossa, a former Superintendent, had written. In it, Avossa made provisions for students who came from outside the district to continue studying at North Springs High. The provision applied to those students who enrolled for the 2016-2017 academic year, or before.
After reviewing the letter and what it implies for students currently enrolled, FCSS decided to allow them to remain, once their home district has given clearance, and made certain tuition payments are current.
FCSS has a charter agreement with Georgia which normally does not accommodate enrolling students from out of the district who come to the school by paying tuition. However, 14 families are affected by the decision, and the students will be allowed to remain. A law firm representing the families says everyone is pleased by FCSS's ruling.
Officials dealing with situations like this can use flyer printing to help disseminate information to those who are concerned.
