Sandy Springs children were taken to Hammond Park on May 21, from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. This is the sixth year Sandy Springs has encouraged its residents to take their kids to the park.
Each year, the National Park Trust (NPT) collaborates with a number of local organizations on Kids to Parks Day. During this event, children are encouraged to get outside and explore the parks in their neighborhoods, where they can discover nature and decide on new adventures.
The National Park Trust works to fight the rising numbers of obese children and adults, and at the same time, increase attendance at local parks. Rusty Paul, the mayor of Sandy Springs, says the community is home to wonderful parks that are perfect places for families to get together and enjoy the outdoors.
Sandy Springs' Recreation and Parks Department provided activities suitable for attendees of all ages. The fun included water slides, obstacle courses, face painting, raffles, inflatables, balloon artists, and music courtesy of a DJ.
The NPT holds this free event each year on the third Saturday in May, and more than 100,000 families and children nationwide take the opportunity to visit their local parks.
City officials might consider working with a brochure printing company to create a booklet that includes photos of this year's event, and reminds people to plan on attending next year.
