World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) launched NXT, its developmental brand, in 2010. A subset of the franchise, NXT started as a competition in which up-and-coming fighters were mentored by the superstars of the WWE as they worked to join the list on the main roster. In 2014, the WWE Network launched NXT as a new show. It tied in broadcasts with large contests, known as TakeOvers, happening live around the world. In 2019, NXT expanded to a two-hour show, and moved to the USA Network.
Now, wrestlers on the roster of the NXT television show attend NXT Live events, where they face off against newer talent. The events gave younger fighters a chance to try themselves against the experienced pros, and continue to build a fanbase for the sport in general. People who see a young person at an NXT Live TakeOver may next see them on Wrestlemania.
An NXT Live event offers wrestling matches, but there are often appearances by superstars from the WWE, as well as surprise matchups.
