Church in Sandy Springs could become senior housing

Parc Communities, a developer, has requested a change in zoning from R-2 (single family) to A-L (apartments) for Sandy Springs' Glenridge Drive area, where it would like to build a senior living community.

The site is presently occupied by the Apostles Church. If the development is approved and built as envisioned, it would be a “very upscale” combination of one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments designed for seniors.

The units will be strictly for those who can live independently, and will include an activities room, an exercise room, a bistro, a game room, a residents' lounge, structured parking, and even a swimming pool.

Chip Collins, the developer's attorney, said Parc hopes to have the project finished and open between the end of 2017 and the first quarter of 2018. He believes the new community would give older residents of Sandy Springs an “upscale option” if they want to move from their single-family residences into smaller spaces, but stay in the city.

Collins went on to say that the new apartments should not increase traffic problems, since many residents will not drive, and those who do will probably not be on the road at peak hours.

The developer might like to work with a brochure printing company to create a booklet for seniors' agencies in the area, describing the proposed project and its amenities.
