Norcross company develops new instrument for blood bank

The next generation of a fully-automated immunohematology instrument by Immucor, Inc. of Norcross, has recently received clearance in the United States from the Food and Drug Administration.

This instrument, the sixth one in its line, fully and safely automates the blood bank. It can be used for high-throughput, mid- to high-volume blood testing when performed in clinical reference laboratories, donor centers, and hospitals.

Chief Marketing Officer of Immuncor, Keith Chaitoff, commented that the sensitivity of their technology, compared with other technologies on the market, enables physicians and their patients to have greater confidence in the results.

Vice President of Transfusion Franchise and Global Customer Programs, Christie Otis, added that when faster and safer identifications and screens are made, labs can get blood that is better matched to the patients that need it. The company appreciates the importance of getting every test result right.

Immuncor has been a major name in the process of automating the blood bank since 1998. Since 2010, its instrument family for this process has provided transfusion medicine laboratories to over 1,000 laboratories around the world, 100 of which are outside the United States.
